I haven’t blogged in a while (and it seems in my absence my blog has decided to hate me and stop working) so here we go. This year I joined the newspaper staff at my school as the layout editor. I never expected it to be as stressful a job as it is; but it’s been fun never the less. So far we’ve gotten two issues out, and we are working on the third right now, the December issue. Since this is my first time doing a newspaper layout (or even working in InDesign for that matter) I made a few mistakes. In print the pictures look darker and the text appears bigger than it looks on the computer screen. So for the second issue, I made a few adjustments and I think it came out pretty good. Here’s some pictures of it:
I also designed the new logo for The Eye as well, which you can see here.
One entailment of being the layout editor of the newspaper that I was unaware of when signing up was the requirement to design other things for the school, such as school t-shirts. The powderpuff football t-shirt and flyer, to be exact. The school had a mixed consensus as to wether my powderpuff logo was good or not, and it was quite amusing to hear the response people had to my design when they had no idea that it was I who designed it. Here are the controversial shirts in question:
Go ahead and leave me a comment on what you think of it.
In other news, I am now the very proud owner of my very own Canon Digital Rebel XT. I’ve only had it a little while now, but i’ve taken thousands of pictures already. Coming soon is an IR filter, a speedlite, and a faster lens for low light, since I shoot tons of concerts.
Latley i’ve been researching colleges tons. If you know me you know that Ringling School of Art and Design has pretty much always been my first choice for a college, but when I think of the debt I will owe in student loans after I get out of there I feel like crying. I don’t think anything is worth a whopping debt straight out of college. Which is why I then started looking into Full Sail in Orlando as an alternative. I even took a tour and it’s an amazing school, but after some counseling from a very experienced and well established friend, I’ve asked myself, why should I spend tons of money on school in the first place when i’ve already come this far by teaching myself?’Why not just go to a state school? So I started researching those as well, and my search led me to UF. It’s got the best Digital Media program of them all, and that’s where I’ve decided it would be most logical to go. Know anyone who works there? *wink*
